King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard – Laminated Denim
Full King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard Laminated Denim Album Lyrics and Tracklist
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard’s 22th album and their 4th one released in 2022, Laminated Denim is a jam rock recording heavily inspired by the concept from their 1st album of this year, Made in Timeland, with its ticking clock sounds in the background serving as a metronome for the whole album:
Laminated Denim is out now!
Like the last record, this one was created out of long improvised jams, but this time we also worked within the constraints of a ticking clock. We used the tick and the tock to create polyrhythms 2 weave in and out of like skiers dancing down a slope.
(the band’s tweet after the album’s premiere)
The name, Laminated Denim, while being an anagram for Made in Timeland, serves also a role to establish the theme of the lyrics for both tracks on the album – it describes something absurd that contradicts its own point (having a denim material just to laminate it and basically lose its unique qualities), and can be interpreted both in a good way (the laminated denim will be clean and not as easily able to tear itself as it would otherwise), and a bad way (the laminated denim is a form of a dadaist statement – a repurposing of materials’ intent just to mess with people’s expectations). Likewise, both tracks describe different shades of an acid trip – the first one, The Land Before Timeland, is about being on a good trip, which later turns out to be a bad trip on Hypertension.
With the release of the album, the band also sold it in an EP form, which came with album’s cover knitted on an actual piece of denim.
